Danny Parrottino, Long Branch, New Jersey knows exactly how to get the most from his Tomato plants.
Danny states that the art of growing champion size tomatoes starts with an excellent root system. And he has perfected an approach of producing strong, healthy, tomato plants without watering the foilage!
The process is simple; yet, so effective that the tomato yields and weights almost double! The following pictorial should help in your garden endeavors....

These are the steps to get Giant results!
  • Get slotted, plastic drainage pipe from your local hardware store that you can place approximately 12" - 18" deep and  along side  your row of tomato plants.  This stuff is light weight and cost only a couple of dollars!
  • Refer to pic to the right.............
  • This irrigation  system becomes the tomato's lifeline for liquid, organic nutrients and a focused water flow.
The picture to the left is 60 days after the above photo and as you can see.... it is a very nice looking TomatoHedge!
This e-z to install pipe-line has these advantages....
  • Save on water
  • The liquid nutrients go directly to the roots
  • The roots eventually adhere to the plastic pipe
  • They get more oxgen
  • You can put time release pellets in the pipe system
  • Sometimes cold water on the leaves will shock the plant.... directing the water below the surface reduces shock
  • The plants are taller and stronger because the root system expands.
Of course, Danny insists that each plant have enough space to grow.  This requires a hole 18" wide and 18" deep per plant to be filled with compost, humus, rock phosphorous, dry manure and green sand!  He states that "if you start off with the organic essentials and enough space for the tomato plant", you reduce the problems that many tomato growers experience later on in the growing season. Below are some pictures of Danny's garden......

Even Danny admits you can get
lost in the hedge rows!
