In 1978, Joe Heimbold thought it would be great fun for the
residents of the Garden State to exercise & show-off their green thumbs
by having a state-wide Big Tomato contest.
Wolfschmidt Vodka saluted the contest by pointing out the winning "Bloody
Mary" combo... Prize Tomatoes and great Vodka. The Gov. of NJ in 1978,
Brendan Byrne, always eager to promote the Garden
State, proclaimed that the NJ Championship Tomato Weigh-In &
Jersey Tomatoes make a perfect match!
